Baptisms and Christenings at St Mary's Church

CandleBaptism or Christening? – don’t worry, it’s the same thing!

We are pleased to welcome you. If you live in the parish of Plympton St. Mary, you are eligible for baptism for yourself or your child. And these days, increasingly, baptisms are taking place at all ages.

Baptism services for babies and children mostly take place at set times. The usual pattern is:

First Sunday of the month at 3pm
Third Sunday of the month at 11.15am
Fifth Sunday of the month at 3pm - if required

How do you prepare for this?

The Baptism Secretary will make all the arrangements for your service, which will include a session of preparation.  So, to plan your service you need to be looking ahead by about 2 months at least. Please telephone our Baptism secretary on 01752 344751 for more information or complete the application form below. If you require baptism urgently, please contact the Vicar - 01752 336157.

What about adults who have not been christened?

Sometimes parents like to be baptised at the same time as their children, if they were not christened as babies themselves. But often, adults who were not baptised earlier are thinking about being confirmed. And this makes sense. Confirmation services are conducted by the bishop. In such cases, he prefers to baptise and confirm at the same time, and that is something very special indeed. To find our more about this, or any other aspect of baptism, please contact the Vicar: 01752 336157.
